The Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Programme's Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity Monitoring Plan: An invitation to engage
Date/time: December 4, 13:00-14:30
Room: San Siro 3
Session organizer: Tom Christensen, Aarhus University and Mora Aronsson, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences on behalf of the Terrestrial Steering Group
The session will provide a forum for discussion related to improved coordination on Arctic terrestrial biodiversity monitoring. The session will be a series of short presentations delivered in partnership with key Arctic terrestrial monitoring networks and stakeholders, thereby using the session as vehicle to facilitate collaboration. The session will introduce the Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity Monitoring Plan recently developed through CAFF's Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program (CBMP). Case studies on integration of terrestrial monitoring will be presented to illustrate best practices, lessons learned and to highlight future opportunities to better collaborate to improve detection and assessment of changes in terrestrial biodiversity. The session will conclude with a facilitated discussion with presenters and audience members on mechanisms to continue to improve coordination of Arctic terrestrial biomonitoring, assess cumulative effects and integrate across disciplines and ways of knowing.
